Have you ever noticed that it’s easier to think straight with a clean, organised home?
According to the ancient philosophy of Feng Shui, our spaces both reflect and affect our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. When our homes become cluttered and disordered, other aspects of our lives tend to feel gridlocked as well.
It's a no-win situation. A cluttered home makes it hard to focus and think clearly, and the longer the mess is left, the more it accumulates, making the task of cleaning increasingly more daunting.
With no clear place to start, time passes with excuses instead of action. Cleaning becomes an abstract goal, waiting for a time free from obligations – which is a contradiction in terms for most of us.
It is a lot easier to clear your head and achieve order by putting your space in order, than by trying to order and control your thoughts in an disorganised space. A messy environment can add stress, slow you down and drain you physically, mentally and emotionally.
Your home surroundings should be set in place to work for you. Anything that is neglected, unwanted or unappealing won’t inspire greatness every time you look at it. Even a beautiful object of great value does nothing for you or your home if you don't actually like it.
The hard part is getting started, but once you choose a task and get the ball rolling, the rest will follow easily. A good place to start could be general cleaning such as picking things up from the floor, putting things where they belong, and vacuuming.
You could even make a list of everything you need to do, starting at the top and working your way down, ticking off as you go. Actually being able to see what you’ve accomplished in writing (and making sure you don’t forget anything) is a great way to benchmark goal achievements.
Cleaning can help create space for you to think clearly, and act decisively, along with improving mental, physical and emotional health.
